Hornaday Leaves Daytona with Fifth-Place Finish

Hornaday Leaves Daytona with Fifth-Place Finish

NASCAR Truck Series - NextEra Energy 250
February 21st, 2014 - Daytona International Speedway
55-year-old Ron Hornaday returned to Daytona in the No. 30 Rheem Comfort Products Chevrolet looking for his first victory in his second race with TSM. After starting on the outside of row 1, he quickly fell behind pole sitter Ben Kennedy into the second position where the two dominated the race early. Hornaday remained there through the first two pit stops, the first coming when NASCAR threw the competition caution on lap 20.
When green-flag racing resumed on lap 57, Hornaday found himself just outside the top-10. He hooked up with teammate Ryan Truex and the two begin wring their way back towards the front. By lap 65, Hornaday settled into the third position with Truex directly behind him. The TSM teammates were content to ride on the bottom line, trying to continue to log laps and waiting to make their final pit stop of the race.
The team made their final pit stop on lap 77, taking only fuel to maintain crucial position on the track. When green-flag racing resumed, Hornaday lost a couple positions trying to make the top line work. He continued working the top line until the final caution of the race came out on lap 87.
The final 10 laps saw Hornaday pushing Truex as they worked the outside line, and the two were able to gain some great momentum.
When the checkered flag flew, Hornaday came home with a fifth-place finish. This was his second top-five finish with TSM in two starts. Hornaday currently sits third in the NCWTS Driver Point standings following Daytona.

Overall, it was a good night at Daytona. I can't thank Turner Scott Motorsports and Rheem Comfort Products enough for all their support and allowing me to come out and race here tonight. I think we had a great plan in place, and I really enjoyed working with my Turner Scott Motorsports teammates Ryan Truex and Ben Kennedy. I have to thank Shane Huffman and the whole No. 30 Rheem Comfort Products Chevy Silverado team; they gave me a great truck that allowed me compete for the win. - Ron Hornaday</strong
